Quin builds a better packer for Northern Foods

Quin Systems' convenient and cost effective solution automates packing

Automating case packing was proving a challenge for Northern Foods, the manufacturers of Fox's Biscuits, until a radically new case packer from Quin Systems provided a convenient and very cost effective solution.

More than 100 packets of biscuits per minute pass off a production line that was fully automated apart from the final step – loading the packs into boxes. Recently, the company decided to automate this last manual process.

The challenge for a packing machine at Northern Foods is complex:

• The packs must be handled gently to avoid damage
• They must be placed accurately in the boxes
• Different biscuit packs need placing differently
• The machine must be easily adaptable to pick up differently-shaped packs
• Consistent high speed is required – too fast for many robotic systems
• Space in the company’s factory is limited
